Northern New Jersey Real Estate
The area now known as Butler was originally called "West Bloomingdale" and was sparsely populated. Water power brought manufacturing entities to the area. In 1857, The Pequannock Valley Paper Company moved from Bergen County and in 1868 the Newbrough Hard Rubber Company built a factory, both based along the Pequannock River. These were two significant economic entities that contributed to the growth of the Borough. In 1869, the New Jersey Midland Railroad extended track through Butler from Paterson, making an important transportation connection for both passengers and freight. The northern terminus for the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway's passenger service was located at Butler until 1966. The railroad still carries freight through Butler.

Kinnelon
Kinnelon's history is written in its rugged hills. Its nearly twenty square-mile area lies within the eastern, or Ramapo, belt of the "Highlands" of New Jersey. These mountains, which once shaped the destiny of colonial independence, which are prized today for their beauty and serenity, are a curious mixture of the most ancient and most recent rocks in the world. The bedrock of these ridges, heavy with minerals, was formed nearly a billion years ago; compressed by the weight of mountains and seas over the centuries; then uplifted and finally carved during the last Ice Age. The Wisconsin glacier, retreating over 17,000 years ago, left a glacial "till" of stony, fertile soil, spectacular ridges, rounded hills, tumbling streams, and placid lakes. Forests thick with oak and hickory soon covered the hills and sheltered an abundance of game.

Smoke Rise, NJ
According to legend, Smoke Rise was once the hunting grounds of the Lenni-Lenape Indians who gave it the name 'The Land Where the Smoke Rises' from watching how the moisture steaming from the lake created the illusion of smoke. Appropriately, it was long the estate of Francis Kinney of the Kinney Brothers Tobacco Co., makers of Sweet Caporals.

West Milford started out as New Milford in western Passaic County in the 1700s, having been settled by disenchanted Dutch from Milford, New Jersey (later renamed by the British as Newark). These same Dutch also built a town of New Milford in eastern Bergen County. By chance both New Milfords applied for a post office in 1828. As the traditional story goes, a clerk in Washington, D.C. saw New Milford in eastern Bergen County and approved their application for a post office. Next seeing a second New Milford in western Passaic County, the word "NEW" was crossed out and the word "WEST" was written in, then the application was approved. Thus, the town found out when they received their approval and New Milford in western Passaic County had became West Milford with the stroke of a quill pen. West Milford became a municipality by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 10, 1834, when it was formed from the westernmost portions of both Franklin Township and Saddle River Township
